It may not commonly be deemed the best game in the arena of gambling, but keno has loads of zealous enthusiasts. And it should! It’s a constantly entertaining lotto-ish game that’s a breeze to play, abundantly available in lots of alternate formats, and one that might yield millions for players who learn its many subtle rules. But let’s start with the basic facts for now.
When explaining keno to newbies, some betting experts compare it to the lottery. This is at least partially apt, in that each game is generally numerical. However, to carry that comparison too far would be to detract from the countless unique characteristics that make keno so entertaining. Not like bingo, keno players have the ability to pick the numbers for each and every card.
Keno cards have a grand total of 80 numbers, but the gambler is given an extra degree of personal responsibility by being able to select as many (or as few) numbers as he or she thinks is appropriate. And it doesn’t take a keno superstar to ascertain how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark all your picked numbers with a good oldmarker like you had when you were in grade 3.
Once you have selected your numbers, take your keno card back to the keno pit manager at the keno booth. The keno pit manager will record those numbers and then give you a receipt. Don’t lose this (potentially) lucrative piece of paper! Even if the clerk remembers your mug and wants help out, without a winning slip with you, you will be given precisely $.00 for your actions.
And there you have strategy number one: always make sure to keep your keno receipt. Let us go on to something a bit more complex, what do you think?
After you’ve picked your numbers, get yourself into a comfortable keno booth and observe the action happen on the monitor. That is where the winning numbers show up for all to see. If you have winning numbers, mark your card accordingly. Make sure not to take too much time, or sit there congratulating yourself for an obnoxious length of time. You must get up to the keno booth to collect your winnings, as a new keno game will most likely start within five minutes.
Strategy #2: always be sure to get back to the keno booth on time!
Assuming you don’t trust yourself to beat that five-minute deadline every time, you always have the option of purchasing a "multi-race" card. These include the self same set of your selected numbers on anywhere from two to twenty slips. When the maximum amount of games (matching the amount of tickets) is played, you can then get off your lazy back side and go redeem your winnings.
Still another option is known as a "stray and play" keno ticket, which normally lets you make number selection for thirty keno games or more. Hell, you can take an ocean cruise and not have to worry about getting back in time to get your numbers. Most "stray and play" game cards are good for up to a whole year after purchase!
And now you know a couple required techniques for winning keno. If you are an advanced gambler, they might appear to be incredibly obvious. Still, it will never hurt to brush up on the fundamentals, and if you are a newbie user, every bit of advice will help make your keno experience more enjoyable.
