It won’t generally be deemed the funnest game in the arena of wagering, but keno has tons of dedicated players. And so it should! It’s a constantly entertaining lottery-like game that’s easy to play, abundantly available in loads of assorted variations, and one that might return millions for players who master its uncounted subtle rules. But let’s deal with the basic rules here.

When explaining keno to beginners, some wagering masters compare it to lotto. This is at least to a certain extent correct, in that both games are generally numerical. But to carry that comparison too far is likely to be to devalue the endless unique aspect that make keno so entertaining. Unlike bingo, keno enthusiasts have the freedom to select the numbers for every card.

Keno cards have a total of eighty numbers, but the gambler is given an additional level of personal responsibility by being able to decide on as numerous (or as few) numbers as he or she desires. And it doesn’t take a doctor of keno to ascertain how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark all of your chosen numbers with a standardball point pen like you had when you were a kid.

Now that you’ve marked your numbers, carry your game card back to the girl at the keno booth. The keno pit manager will record those numbers and then hand you a receipt. Do not misplace this (potentially) expensive piece of paper! Even if the keno pit manager remembers your pretty face and would like to help out, without a winning ticket on you, you will win exactly $.00 for your efforts.

Ok, there you have strategy numero uno: always make sure to keep your keno ticket. Let’s move to something a bit more complicated, ok?

After you’ve marked your numbers, get into a nice keno booth and watch the action unfold on the video monitor. That’s where the winning numbers are shown in lights. If you checked winning numbers, mark your card aptly. Make sure not to take too much time, or sit there praising yourself for an obnoxious length of time. You really want to get back to the keno stand to collect your winnings, as a new round of keno will surely get going within a few minutes.

Strategy number two: always make it back to the keno stand on time!

Assuming you can’t trust yourself to meet that 5 minute deadline every time, you always have the option of using a "multi-race" card. These include the self same set of your selected numbers on anywhere from two to 20 cards. When the maximum number of rounds (fitting the amount of tickets) is finished, you can then get off your lazy back side and go collect your winnings.

Still another option is known as a "stray and play" keno ticket, which usually lets you make number selection for 30 keno games or more. Heck, you can take vacation to Italy and not have to get uptight about getting back in time to collect your numbers. Most "stray and play" game tickets are good for up to a whole year after it’s purchased!

And now you know a few required methods for winning keno. If you are an experienced player, they might seem to be very obvious. However, it does not hurt to brush up on the basics, and if you are a newbie player, every tiny bit of advice will help make your keno playing time more enjoyable.
